1 Peter – Hope for the Suffering Church

1 Peter is a pastoral letter written by the apostle Peter to Christians scattered throughout Asia Minor who were facing rising hostility and persecution for their faith. Peter encourages these believers by reminding them of their new identity in Christ—chosen, set apart, and born again into a living hope through Jesus’ resurrection. He urges them to pursue holiness, endure suffering with steadfastness, and reflect Christ’s character in a world that misunderstands them. Throughout the letter, Peter frames suffering not as defeat but as a refining fire that strengthens faith and bears witness to Christ’s grace, all while pointing believers toward the future hope of Jesus’ return.
