Section 1: Psalm 5 – A Morning Prayer for Guidance and Protection

Overview:
David begins the day crying out to the Lord for help, guidance, and protection. He contrasts God’s holiness with the wickedness of evildoers, declaring that evil cannot dwell with God. David seeks mercy and asks the Lord to lead him in righteousness because of his enemies. While the wicked face judgment for their rebellion, those who trust in the Lord rejoice under His protection. The psalm emphasizes God’s justice, faithfulness, and favor toward the righteous.

Section 2: Psalm 6 – A Prayer for Mercy in Distress

Overview:
In this deeply personal psalm, David cries out to God in weakness, sorrow, and suffering. He pleads for mercy rather than discipline in wrath, describing his exhaustion, grief, and tears. David feels overwhelmed by enemies and by his own frailty, yet he places his confidence in the Lord’s compassion. The psalm shifts from lament to assurance as David declares that God has heard his prayer and that his enemies will be put to shame.

Overview:
David appeals to God for justice against false accusations and hostile enemies. He declares his innocence concerning the charges against him and asks the Lord, the righteous Judge, to defend him. David describes God as a shield for the upright and a judge who examines hearts and minds. Though the wicked plan evil, their schemes ultimately return upon themselves. The psalm ends with praise to the Lord for His righteousness and justice.

Section 4: Psalm 8 – The Majesty of God and the Dignity of Humanity

Overview:
David marvels at the greatness of God revealed in creation. The heavens, moon, and stars display God’s majesty, causing David to wonder why God cares for humanity at all. Yet God has crowned humanity with honor and given mankind dominion over creation. This psalm celebrates both the glory of the Creator and the special role given to humanity within His creation. Ultimately, the psalm points forward to Christ, the perfect Son of Man who fulfills humanity’s calling.

• God’s care and purpose for mankind.
• Christ as the fulfillment of humanity’s dominion.
