Psalm 91 is a beautiful and a powerful psalm. It’s usually referred to as a psalm of protection. Today our thought will focus verses 14 and 15.

¹⁴“Because he has loved Me, therefore I will deliver him; I will set him securely on high, because he has known My name. ¹⁵He will call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will rescue him and honor him.” (Psalm 91:14-15 NASB)

When we set our love on God and truly know His name—His character, His faithfulness, His power, and His covenant love—He promises to deliver us and keep us secure. When we call upon Him, He answers; He is present with us; He rescues us and lifts us up. From these assurances our focus will be on three words: Security, Safety, and Significance.

Security – …I will set him securely on high

• In Matthew 19:16-29, we read about the rich young ruler who approached Jesus desiring eternal life but walked away grieving when instructed to sell his possessions. His material fortune provided a false sense of stability, making him unwilling to trade his temporal net worth for eternal life. He placed his sense of security in his wealth.

Safety – …I will answer him; and be with him in trouble

• In Exodus 2:1–10, we read the story of baby Moses put in a basket and sent away for safety down the Nile river. In the middle of chaos, God provides safety for Moses and that was just the beginning. We know all the amazing things God accomplished through Moses.

Significance – …I will rescue him and honor him

• In Genesis 29:31–35 We read about Leah, unloved and neglected by her husband, spent years naming her sons after her desperate search for Jacob’s approval. Her breakthrough came with her fourth son, Judah, when she declared, “This time I will praise the Lord,” shifting her focus from striving for human validation to honoring God and finally finding her significance in God.

I pray that you will find your safety, security, and significance – not in the roles you play – but in your identity as he daughter of the MOST HIGH as you continue to trust Him!
