Heart for God

I was struggling with something at work and decided to listen to worship music on my way to work to prepare my heart for the day. Every single day, twice a day there was one song that would repeat. It would just always be the “next song”. Because it repeated so often it got me thinking what are the words really saying? What is the Lord trying to reveal to me? The song was Take My Life by Chris Tomlin and it really got me thinking about the what the words mean in the song and so I did a deeper study.

Verse 1: A Call to Complete Consecration

• “Take my life and let it be, consecrated Lord to thee” (Set Apart): To be consecrated means shifting from living for your own pleasure to serving a higher purpose. It is a daily commitment to live as a living sacrifice and part of God’s “royal priesthood”
  • “But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. Once you were not a people, but now you are God’s people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.” 1 Peter 2:9-10
• “Take my moments and my days, let them flow in ceaseless praise.” (Intentional Time): Are you worshiping only on Sundays? What’s your heart’s intent. Glorify God by making the most of every opportunity.
  • “Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil.” Ephesians 5:15-16.
  • Application: When my lonely neighbor Paula needed company, I realized my own selfish agenda almost made me miss a divine appointment. Loving our neighbors requires letting go of our own convenience.
• “Take my hands and let them move at the impulse of thy love.” (Driven by Compassion): Let the Holy Spirit’s prompting—not greed or obligation—drive your daily work. True love is demonstrated through tangible actions, not just words.
• “Take my feet and let them be swift and beautiful for thee.” (Willing Direction): Your feet represent your daily walk and conduct. Commit to bringing hope and good news to those who need it whether God calls you across the world or simply to the house next door.
  • “And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news.!” Romans 10:15

I challenge you to live for Christ, not the world.
