“The Righteous, the Exalted Lord, and His Saving Power”

Why this fits all three psalms:

  • Psalm 112 — celebrates the character and blessings of the righteous who fear the Lord.
  • Psalm 113 — lifts up the Lord who is exalted above all nations yet stoops to raise the lowly.
  • Psalm 114 — remembers God’s mighty deliverance of Israel, when creation itself responded to His saving presence.

Together they form a beautiful progression:

  • The righteous who trust God → The God who is exalted → The God who delivers with power.

Psalm 112 – The Blessings of the Righteous

Overview

Psalm 112 describes the life of the person who fears the Lord and delights in His commandments. It presents a portrait of godly character, showing how reverence for God influences every area of life. The righteous are portrayed as generous, compassionate, steadfast in adversity, and unwavering in their trust in God. While earthly wealth and honor may accompany such a life, the psalm emphasizes that the greatest blessing is a stable heart founded upon faith. In contrast, the wicked witness God’s blessings upon the righteous but ultimately perish in frustration because their desires cannot overcome God’s purposes.

Psalm 113 – The Lord Exalted Above All Nations

Psalm 113 opens the collection known as the Egyptian Hallel (Psalms 113–118), traditionally sung during Israel’s great festivals, especially Passover. The psalm calls God’s servants to praise Him continually because He is exalted above all nations and yet lovingly stoops to care for the humble. Although the Lord reigns over heaven and earth, He lifts the poor from the dust and blesses the barren woman with a family. His greatness is revealed not merely in His majesty but in His compassion toward those who cannot help themselves.

Answer:

Nature itself responds to the Creator as the Red Sea parts, the Jordan River retreats, and mountains skip like rams. These vivid images emphasize that all creation recognizes the authority of its Maker. The psalm concludes by reminding readers that God’s presence transforms impossible situations, just as He brought water from solid rock during Israel’s wilderness journey. The God who redeemed Israel remains sovereign over creation and faithful to His covenant people.

Answer:
